Answer Obtained Years Later - The Comb and The Watch 数年后所得的答案 - 梳子和手表

Years ago, I shared the music video below with a friend of mine. After watching the MV, he asked me a simple question which I could not answer at that point in time," Why the guy gave his pair of eyes to the girl? Wouldn't it be better if he gives her one and leave one with him so that both of them can see as well?"

Because I'm A Girl - KISS

That supposingly to be a fairly simple question took years to be solved. I should be grateful that it did not take the whole life though. I found my answer in the story of "The Comb and The Watch", which was shared by my lecturer when I was a freshman. That time, majority of the class found the couple were rather ridiculous and foolish. Years went by and reading the story again, I found that, those who ridiculed the story years ago, were actually those who were foolish and ridiculous.

I cannot comprehend why I was only able to find my answer after the second time reading the story again,  years after listening to it for the very first time. Time teaches, maybe?

The Comb and The Watch
"A very poor man lived with his wife.

One day, his wife, who had very long hair asked him to buy her a comb for her hair to grow well and to be well-groomed.

The man felt very sorry and said no. He explained that he did not even have enough money to fix the strap of his watch he had just broken.

She did not insist on her request.

The man went to work and passed by a watch shop, sold his damaged watch at a low price and went to buy a comb for his wife.

He came home in the evening with the comb in his hand ready to give to his wife.

He was surprised when he saw his wife with a very short hair cut.

She had sold her hair and was holding a new watch band.

Tears flowed simultaneously from their eyes, not for the futility of their actions, but for the reciprocity of their love.

MORAL: To love is nothing, to be loved is something but to love and to be loved by the one you love, that is EVERYTHING. Never take love for granted."
